Earlier this morning I logged onto facebook to see a post from 343i, a first look into halo 4. I stopped everything I was doing immediately to check it out. I was able to watch the video twice before I had to make a mad dash out to meet friends. With what I saw, I’ve got hope and skepticism for the next installment of my most beloved franchise.
So to begin let’s take a quick look back at halo 3 and reach. Halo 3, my favourite of the series so far. While I may take slack for that, it was a more balanced and fair multiplayer than halo 2 and the campaign for me was much more fun, mostly to due with 4 player co-op. Now Halo:Reach, had a great story but from the beginning it just didn’t feel like Halo. Maybe because you weren’t the chief, I enjoyed the campaign as a player, but not the same. Multiplayer just never stacked up the same way as the two previous(major) installments. Between bloom and sprint, having to time your shots didn’t work when players could come in and just sprint away to safety, not enough punishment for making mistakes.
Now let’s take a look at what you can go see now on Halo: Waypoint, campaign wise, its debatable, but I’m assuming its forerunners or precursors. What they do say is that for once in a game we will learn more about spartan 117 or master chief. While I’ve read all the books I am excited to see where we head, and the new enemy(and hopefully no flood I’m sick of them). All the graphics are being updated and the detail on the images shown is awesome.
In multiplayer we will be playing as spartan IV’s. Which is a totally new idea not brought up anywhere in the halo canon, and they are developing a reason for blue to be fighting red. While I didn’t see bloom in the small bits I did see there was sprint. But they have shown the fans love and brought back the battle rifle! This is the best I could hope for, and hopefully right from the get go they let us have no bloom/no sprint. Also two maps were showed off, I forget the names right now, but one was an arena style competitive map and the other was a factory with a mech being built in it. The only reason I can assume those are being shown is for beta! They have done it for both reach and h3 so I am hoping the trend continues.
I am hoping for this to be a labour of love for 343i. Set off there game developing strategy right, it is a massive franchise and the reason most people own a xbox. Let’s hope the content keeps flowing and this franchise returns to glory.
